The approval of the drug comes as the American pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca faces an onslaught of generic competition for the antipsychotic. As the American pharmaceutical company, which makes Seroquel, announced that it would acquire Seroquel XR (quetiapine fumarate), it said the US firm would be able to sell the drugs under the trade name Seroquel.
But the drug’s patents on the two products, called SERQELXR (quetiapine fumarate XR) and SERQELXR (quetiapine fumarate XR) expired, and the company was not allowed to sell the drug without a license.
